Clark County Coroner Identifies Theft Suspect, 911 Caller Killed in “Self Defense”
CLARK COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) – The Clark County Coroner identified the man who was shot and killed in Clark County during an attempted robbery at a Papa John’s pizzeria in New Carlisle on Sunday.
According to the coroner, the suspect was 21-year-old Gage Melton.
The shooting took place at Papa John’s in the 400 block of North Main Street in New Carlisle.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said two suspects attempted to rob the store just after 11 p.m. During this attempt, one of the suspects was shot and killed. The other suspect fled and authorities said they were still looking for that person.
It is not known who shot the suspect. The sheriff’s office said it was not releasing this information at this time, however, a 911 caller told dispatchers the suspect was shot in self-defense after the suspects “ran in with weapons “. According to the appellant, the suspects had a crowbar and a knife.
All workers inside the building are safe. No one else was injured in the incident.
