Statement by Representative Sherrill on the White House Bill Signing of the bipartite law on infrastructure investment and jobs
Washington DC – Today Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after attending the White House Bill signing ceremony for the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act :
“Today the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has become law, and I have been fortunate enough to be part of the bipartisan group of lawmakers, transport officials, union leaders and others who attended the signing ceremony at the White House. It’s hard to overstate how much of a victory this legislation is for the families of the NJ-11. For years, I have listened to stories of hellish journeys that disrupt everyday life and have experienced those disruptions myself. By putting shovels in the ground at the Gateway Tunnel Project and the Lackawanna Cutoff, ensuring our drinking water is safe from PFAS and lead pipes, creating well-paying union jobs that will fuel our economy and by investing in our children’s future and our edge global competitiveness – this legislation will benefit NJ-11 families in countless ways for decades to come.
“This law should also remind us that despite the polarization of our nation that receives the most attention, there are still opportunities for us to find common ground and act for the American people. At today’s signing ceremony, I sat alongside lawmakers on both sides as we watched this bill – which in many ways will lay the foundation for our future – become law.
“Times like this are the reason I came to Congress: to get things done for the people of northern New Jersey. Work will continue to ensure that these projects start effectively and efficiently, but today turning this package into law is something to be proud of. “
