The 10 best pizza scenes in the movies
Pizza can be found in hundreds of movies, but it’s mostly seen in the form of product placement; a way for a pizza company like Dominoes or Papa Johns to promote their slices. However, some movies use the dish in more inventive ways.
There is no food that unites the world more than pizza. There are so many variations of pizza out there and it can fit almost any dietary requirement, so when a pizza pops up on the big screen, the belly of an entire audience rumbles synchronously. Whether it starts a turf war, or the inspiration for a futuristic invention, or just an iconic character’s favorite food, these scenes all celebrate the greatness of pizza in one way or another.
ten Wayne’s World (1992)
With Wayne’s world being one of the funniest comedies ever made and by far the best movie based on a Saturday Night Live sketch, it made the fans laugh so much that they were crying. One of the most memorable scenes comes when Wayne and Garth fear they are exhausted.
When discussing product placement, in a very fourth wall, Wayne inadvertently participates in promoting products to the public, while looking directly at the camera. One of those products is Pizza Hut pizza. Wayne hilariously declares, “I will not bow to any sponsor,” as he holds up a slice of pepperoni pizza with the Pizza Hut logo clearly displayed.
9 Dude where is my car? (2000)
Dude where is my car? is one of the most underrated comedies of the 2000s because The Hangover essentially got his whole story from this movie. When two pizza delivery guys wake up hungover, not remembering what happened the night before, the first thing they find out is that they haven’t delivered 30 pizzas.
When the owner of the pizzeria visits them, they run around trying to hide the pizza before he enters the apartment. The pizza chef tries to prove that the two have “hijacked” his pizza, as the slices literally stuck to the roof begin to peel off.
8 Back to the Future Part II (1989)
One of the reasons why Back to the future part II It’s the best movie in the series because it’s set in the future, and the most interesting thing about the future in the movie is the ability to rehydrate a dehydrated pizza.
In the film, Lorraine puts a small pizza that fits in the palm of her hand into a strange Black and Decker device. After a few seconds, it is the size of a regular dish. While there are a lot of things the film correctly predicts about the future, unfortunately this is not one of them.
7 Do the Right Thing (1989)
As the set of Do the right thing is based around Sal’s Pizza, an Italian pizzeria located in a predominantly African-American neighborhood, the place inadvertently incites war as tensions mount.
Things heat up in the restaurant in a scene very early on, but not before a hilarious round trip between Sal and Buggin ‘Out. Buggin ‘asks for extra cheese on his pizza, and, when Sal tells him it’s two dollars, he starts sprinkling free Parmesan cheese by the handful.
6 Deadpool (2016)
Before really becoming Deadpool and just being a two-bit gun for hire, Wade Wilson orders pizza from a random stranger’s house, because his victim is the delivery guy. But that’s not all, later in the movie Tony can be found digging a pizza with Obi. It comes right before Obi betrays Tony, and the last good thing Obi does for Tony is give him another share. This gesture stung Obi’s betrayal even more.
3 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
The classic comedy film Talladega Nights: Ricky Bobby’s Ballad presents one of the most mouthwatering parties ever seen in a movie. After Carly says, “I’ve been doing this for hours,” it comes down to a photo of the dining table full of Domino pizza. But it doesn’t just end with the pizza, because there’s a bucket full of KFC chicken, burgers, and tons of sides too. While all of these foods were presented in a salivating manner, the film didn’t make any money from its blatant product placement.
2 Upside Down (2015)
The start of Upside down, one of the best Pixar movies of the 2010s, sees Riley move to San Francisco and she struggles to adjust to city life. Things get worse when she receives a pizza with a broccoli topping. Being from the Midwest, Riley is not used to such healthy dishes. 1 Home Alone (1990)
There is so much pizza to be found in Alone at home, because even in the opening scene, it’s quite a pizza feast. In what is arguably the most iconic pizza scene in movie history, Kevin uses dialogue from a gangster movie to talk to the delivery guy without revealing his age.
It ends with Kevin making the delivery guy believe he’s being shot with a machine gun after the delivery guy calls Kevin cheap. It’s so iconic that the same joke was pulled on the hotel bellboy in the second movie. However, since the film is based in Chicago, there isn’t a single deep pizza in sight, which is almost criminal.
