I sure hope you took it if you're on that flight.

This one had lots of changes, all for the better:
LIS-IAD 5/1/24
10/20/23 Original purchase in E- for 31K miles
11/23/23 Price drop, cancelled and rebooked in E- for 26K miles
4/23/24 Upsell to PP for $379
4/30/24 Upgrade to Polaris for $598
The upgrade to Polaris was a comedy of errors that finally worked out. I was watching offers at T-26, and saw prices from one search to the next search literally alternate between $2K and $599. First time I purchased at $599 it went through, and then I immediately received a second email indicating the purchase was refunded. This identical back and forth happened two more times, at which point I called UA and explained what had happened, politely asked to please make the upgrade happen. CSR had several minute conversation with supervisor and came back and booked the upgrade for $598. (Saved a buck!)
So all in it was 26K miles + $977 to end up in Polaris. You all can tell me if this was a good deal based on your experiences, but for my very limited experience I was pretty happy.

I have had this happen multiple even a month or more out. And after failing the offer remained. Most of the time, a call would fix it and get it process (it was $600 each time). However, one time a supervisor refused, even acknowlding the offer was still available claimed UA had the right to cancel at any time even if UA confirmed the upgrade and issue a credit card hold!!! As it it was till there a week later, I got a supervisor that agreed UA was morally and likely legally obligated to honor the offer. I had submitted a DOT complain but became moot due to the second supervisor.

My SFO-HNL flight was at $1265 until 6 weeks out it dropped to $699 on a 772HD. HNL-SFO redeye was $639 until 6 weeks out and dropped to $399 and I accepted. I paid $499 for the redeye last year.

Is this from Y to J or PE? Or is it PE to J?

Sheesh, for some reason my brain was only looking at the numbers and completely ignored the city pairs. My bad. Thanks for waking me up.

Long time 1K but just a nobody now.
Flying to Maui next week; COS-DEN-OGG. DEN-OGG is $1,600/person so we will suck it up in the very back of the 777HD, however the upgrade on COS-DEN is $79/person, which gets me free luggage and BG1. Obviously dont actually care about the upgrade on such a short flight, but free luggage and side benefit of BG1 for I assume both flights seems nice.
Thoughts?

COS - The DEN-OGG flight is always very hit-miss with regards to upgrades (especially since no CPUs). I was looking at the same thing recently - ~$1600 around the time of booking or 500 and a bunch of points... but was able to recently score a $499 upgrade at check-in, which I thought was not all that bad for a 7 hour day flight....

I'm not sure that you'll get BG1 on the DEN-OGG segment. Reverse scenario, but a no status coworker recently purchased a cheap F upgrade on the second segment (got BG1 on that one), but got BG4 on the first segment. He did get the F luggage allowance all the way through.

I can't be the first to write this as my IQ is approximately my body temperature in Fahrenheit, but the first time I saw the TOP UPG I thought, that's brilliant.
Corporate Wankees can buy their ticket in economy, have a valid receipt for cheap economy fare, and then pay for a guaranteed upgrade, if they so chose.

COSPILOT, I always laugh when I get CPUed for the COS-DEN run but in the case where you now lack any kind of status and therefore can't check bags for free, it may well be worth the $79. How many bags were you planning on checking? I wouldn't count on BG1 for the second leg -- I don't think that particular benefit transfers.

Are you even sure? It says:
Free Checked Bags
The primary Cardmember and one traveling companion on the same reservation are each eligible to receive their first and second standard checked bags free; authorized users are only eligible if they are on the same reservation as the primary Cardmember. To receive first and second standard checked bags free, the primary Cardmember must use their United Club℠ Visa Infinite Card to purchase their ticket(s) (this purchase requirement is waived for flights completed during the 90 days following the account open date) and include their MileagePlus® number in their reservation. First and second standard checked bags free is only available on United- and United Express-operated flights; codeshare partner-operated flights are not eligible. Service charges for oversized, overweight and extra baggage may apply. Cardmembers who are already exempt from other checked baggage service charges will not receive additional free standard checked bags. Chase is not responsible for the provision of, or failure to provide, the stated benefits. Please allow 2 weeks after account opening for your first and second free standard checked bags to be available on eligible United reservations. Please visit united.com/ChaseBag for details.
